CARCHECKHQ REPORT GUIDE

Car service history: records to verify before buying

A service-history claim should be supported by records of the work carried out. MOT dates and odometer readings answer different questions and should not be presented as a full service history.

Current coverage

CarCheckHQ's current connected feed does not provide a verified service-book or manufacturer service-record history. An unavailable section does not mean the car was never serviced.

How to interpret coverage and missing information

Request the records behind the claim

Ask the seller for the service book, dated invoices and any manufacturer or workshop record they can obtain. Check the vehicle identifier, mileage and work listed. A stamp or headline description alone may not explain which work was performed.

Compare service evidence with the timeline

Use independent mileage observations to spot questions about the dates and readings on supplied documents. A consistent sequence can help your review, but it does not authenticate an invoice or confirm every service requirement was met.

Before you make a decision

  • Ask what the seller means by full service history.
  • Compare the dates, readings and work listed with the vehicle.
  • Verify doubtful records with the relevant workshop through an appropriate authorised route.

Common questions

Is MOT history the same as service history?

No. MOT records describe tests; service records describe maintenance work. CarCheckHQ does not relabel MOT or mileage information as servicing.
