CARCHECKHQ BUYING ADVICE

Used-car buying checklist: before viewing and paying

A practical list of checks before you meet the seller.

Compare the registration, VIN and make with the vehicle and its documents. Investigate any mismatch before proceeding.

Inspect the car in daylight. Look for inconsistent panel gaps, paint differences, fluid leaks and uneven tyre wear.

Compare dated mileage readings with the odometer and service invoices. Ask the seller to explain unusual gaps or inconsistencies.

Arrange an independent inspection where appropriate. A history report supports an inspection; it cannot replace one.

Use this guidance alongside the report coverage and limitations. See the sample vehicle report and report prices before choosing a check.
